Cha Cha Matcha

Cha Cha Matcha

Cha Cha Matcha is probably one of the most popular cafés in the city. A matcha-only café, they serve a variety of year-round and seasonal matcha drinks as well as soft-serve with rotating flavors in addition to their matcha flavor. Sometimes they make latte art and other times they use stencils. They have two locations, one in SoHo and one in Nomad. Continue reading “Cha Cha Matcha”

Four and Twenty Blackbirds

Four and Twenty Blackbirds

I’m not a huge pie fan but Four and Twenty Blackbirds definitely converted me. It’s a pie shop located in Gowanus, Brooklyn and they’re famous for their custard pies. I usually don’t eat pies because of the fruit texture – apples get too grainy and berries get too syrupy and sweet. But once I learned they sold custard pies and I tried one, I was completely hooked! Dominique Ansel Bakery

Dominique Ansel Bakery

Of course one of the NYC staples is the cronut from Dominique Ansel Bakery. When cronuts first came out, queues were so long that people would put ads on Craigslist to get paid to stand in queue. Some people paid up to $40 for two cronuts! This croissant-doughnut hybrid definitely started the hybrid craze – now there are dough-ssants, cruffins, and whatever else you can imagine! Supermoon Bakehouse

Supermoon Bakehouse

I used to go to the counterpart of Supermoon Bakehouse when I visited my friends in San Francisco so imagine my delight when they opened up a bakehouse here in New York City! Located in the Lower East Side, it’s a nice, somewhat spacious bakery with a minimalist design. They do have a wall lit up with the words “Bite Me, NYC”, though, which is pretty apt! Sweet Moment

Sweet Moment

One thing New York City is great at is having “Instagrammable” cafes! This one called Sweet Moment, is located in Chinatown and known for their cream art lattes. You have to specifically request the cream art lattes because those drinks are actually cold. They serve it as a cold brew or as cold black milk tea. I prefer it as milk tea and I’m supposing they serve it cold so that the latte art lasts longer. Their bingsoo (also known as shaved ice) is also very popular. You can see their menu here.
