Final Day in Amsterdam!

Final Day in Amsterdam!

My trip to Holland is ending and my friend Sam pretty much jam-packed it with the best things: taking me on another boat ride in The Waverly, eating brunch at Staring at Jacob’s, going to the rooftop bar at SkyLounge Amsterdam for last drinks watching the sun set over the city, and seeing a live sex show in the Red Light District! Like I said – pretty packed. Continue reading “Final Day in Amsterdam!”

Zaanse Schans

Zaanse Schans

My trip to Holland was slowly nearing its end and so I made one last stop before spending the rest of the afternoon and evening in Amsterdam. I had another dear friend who had also visited Holland before my trip and she had recommended this really cute windmill village called Zaanse Schans. This quaint neighborhood has a collection of well-preserved historic windmills and houses and each of the windmills even have names! Keukenhof

Keukenhof

One of the world’s largest flower gardens, Keukenhof, also known as the “Garden of Europe”, is a must-see for someone visiting Holland for the first time in the spring. According to the official Keukenhof website, there are more than 7 million bulbs in bloom, with a total of 800 varieties of tulips. The best time to view the tulips is mid- to late-April when the flowers are in peak bloom. Continue reading “Keukenhof”

Giethoorn

Giethoorn

So Sam had the day off so the first thing I wanted us to do was take the train to Giethoorn for a day trip. Considered the “Venice of the Netherlands”, it’s a small town surrounded by only footbridges and canals. That’s right – no cars are allowed in the old town, whose history dates back to the Middle Ages. I wanted us to visit Giethoorn because it was a throwback to our Italy trip where we went to Venice. I love that you can see the 18th and 19th century farmhouses hidden between the trees and wooden bridges! Continue reading “Giethoorn”

Delft and Den Haag

Delft and Den Haag

After my first two days in Amsterdam, I decided to go on a little mini adventure to a few other cities outside of Amsterdam. I was planning on visiting Delft, Den Haag, and Haarlem before meeting Sam after work (she ended work early that day) to take her boat back to the apartment but I ended up spending more time than expected in both Delft and Den Haag and missed out on Haarlem completely. But have no fear! My notes on Haarlem will be provided at the end of this post! Continue reading “Delft and Den Haag”
