Sorrento and Capri

Sorrento and Capri

We woke up a little early to take the SITA bus to Sorrento to take the ferry to Capri. You can purchase bus tickets directly at Bar Internazionale in cash. The grandpa that owns the bar has a gruff exterior but he really looks after you and does worry after you if he thinks you’re doing something unsafe (like when we decided to hike in the rain). This particular area is also a free WiFi zone! When we got to Sorrento, we took the regular ferry to Capri. Continue reading “Sorrento and Capri”

Exploring Positano

Exploring Positano

TRAIN:
Firenze Santa Maria Novella to Napoli Centrale
Travel Time: 3 h
Total: €58
Total per person: €29

My sister and I took the evening train from Florence to Sorrento. Sorrento is the best place to stay if you want to go to Mt. Vesuvius, Pompeii, and Herculaneum. Initially, we were going to hike in Mt. Vesuvius (4 hr hike) and get pizza in Napoli but my sister broke her shoulder prior to this trip and since I wanted to do another hike in Amalfi, we decided to skip Mt. Vesuvius and just stayed overnight in Piano di Sorrento and checked in early at Positano and spent the rest of our trip in the Amalfi Coast.  Continue reading “Exploring Positano”

Chianti Wine Tour in Tuscany

Chianti Wine Tour in Tuscany

TRAIN:
Venezia Santa Lucia (Venice, Main Station) to Firenze Santa Maria Novella (Florence)
Travel Time: 2h 5 min
Total: €24,90

From Venice, I took the evening train to Florence. I was going to be in Florence for four days before heading to Amalfi Coast. I actually had a friend fly out to Florence from Basel, Switzerland just to go around for a few days before I flew my sister out (we were going to spend a week together in Italy since we never travelled together internationally). The Airbnb we stayed in was great because they had casual breakfast set up every morning and it was within walking distance of all the major tourist spots (eg. museums, cathedrals). Secret Tour, Clock Tower, and Goodbyes

Secret Tour, Clock Tower, and Goodbyes

Our final day in Venice was spent going on a few guided tours. Our first guided tour was a “Secret Tour” of the Doge’s Palace. The doge (also known as “Duke”) was usually the shrewdest elder of Venice and was a lifetime appointment through an election. Continue reading “Secret Tour, Clock Tower, and Goodbyes”

Siena, Oh Siena…

Siena, Oh Siena…

TRAIN:
Pisa Centrale to Siena
(1 Transfer at Empoli)
Travel Time: 1h 44min
Total: €21,60
Total per person: €10,80

Our last day trip was to Siena, a small city within Tuscany. We left early in the morning (before 8am) to go to Siena since it take roughly two hours to get there. One extremely special feature of Siena is its cathedral. The Duomo de Siena (Siena Cathedral) is the only black-and-white building in the entire city. Just seeing the Cathedral and going inside made the entire ride worth it! Continue reading “Siena, Oh Siena…”
